Most of us probably think of October 31st as Halloween. But did you know it’s also World Magic Day? This international holiday is a time to promote magic. And no, we’re not talking about paranormal spells and potions. We’re talking about magic as a performing art. Think of the close-up tricks and theatrical illusions performed by the likes of Howard Thurston, Harry Kellar and (of course) Harry Houdini.
In fact, it’s Houdini who inspired the date of World Magic Day. It was on October 31st in1926 that the Hungarian-born magician passed away, after a life spent wowing audiences with sensational stunts, sleights of hand and escape acts. No doubt we have Houdini to thank for why magic remains so popular today.
